Abstract
Comparative tests of painted metal-sprayed treatments against various paint treatments over grit-blasted conditions steel have been made under various exposure conditions, both laboratory and natural. No one system has proved to give the best performance under all conditions, but with the exception of acid industrial conditions, metal spray plus paint can giveadded long-term protection. Where acid industrial conditions are encountered, lead-based priming paints are the best treatment for grit-blasted steel. Silicate-based zinc-rich paints show promise. Test results on paint systems in natural rural and industrial conditions (after 21/2 years) are not available.
