Abstract
This paper proposes the case method as a technique for infusing elements of rural special education into preservice programs. It offers ways in which ruralness can be emphasized through case selection, modification, or development. Case method instruction permits the instructor to developmentally infuse previously learned competencies to current problem oriented issues in the real world of teaching from a holistic framework rather than in isolation. It can be used simultaneously with other methods to extend students' content knowledge and processing skills. Finally, suggestions are offered to evaluate the attainment of student competencies in content and processes and broaden the understanding of rural special education service delivery.
