Abstract
The purpose and benefits of fetal echocardiography are discussed. Early management in the event of a cardiac abnormality is imperative. Success in conducting fetal echocardiography begins with a complete understanding of cardiac embryoloy and fetal anatomy and physiology. Indications for fetal echocaidiography include maternal, familial, and 'fetal risk factors. An explanation of general scantning methods and routine echocardiographic views enables the sonographer to perform fetal echocardiography during routine obstetric examinations.
