Abstract
Positioning of patients to obtain diagnostic images can be a problem for vascular technologists. This concern is escalated during evaluation of the total joint arthroplasty patient. For patients with unstable joint revisions and other orthopaedic conditions, it is recommended that the patient be manipulated as little as possible. From the results of over 3,500 lower extremity venous examinations using an obstetric/gynecologic table, the authors have developed a technique which can assist the technologist to obtain clear images in a majority of total joint arthroplasty patients.
