Abstract
The renal sonographic appearances of 74 patients with the diagnosis of sickle cell disease, as documented by electrophoresis, were analyzed in this retrospective study. Renal size was compared with that in normal patients and found to show a significant increase in the adult patients. Other findings documented and discussed include echogenicity of renal parenchyma, echofree masses, echogenic foci, and papillary necrosis. Where possible, findings have been related to sickle cell disease.
