Abstract
A simulation model to estimate the moisture content of a blister-packaged, moisture-sensitive pharmaceutical tablet was developed. The model was based on the unsteady state mass transfer of water between the package, the tablet, and external environment at constant temperature. The product's moisture content as well as that of the packaging material were given as a function of storage time, environmental conditions (temperature and humidity), and package design parameters (material, area, and thickness). A computer program was written to solve the equations using the finite difference method. Computer results are presented for several values of diffusion coefficient, solubility of water in the packaging material, and diffusion coefficient of water in the tablet.
