Abstract
A process has been developed to produce a biaxially oriented polyacrylonitrile film (BOPAN) with a level of extractible monomers which is far below the maximum allowed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for packaging films. The film has a combination of excellent characteristics as shown by data comparing it with other films regarding such properties as tensile strength, modulus, barrier to oxygen and water vapor, optical properties and high temperature dimensional stability. Some market development studies are described.
