Hiatal hernias are a common problem, affecting ~25% of the population. While data on sex-related or gender-related issues affecting hiatal hernias are rare, a clear distinction between men and women in pathophysiology and presentation exists, and these differences ought to be considered in the management of patients. We present a brief review of the established data on gender differences in hiatal hernias.
