Abstract
Per oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) is an endoscopic procedure for the management of achalasia. The basic steps of POEM include (1) diagnostic esophagogastroduodenoscopy, (2) mucosotomy, (3) submucosal tunneling, (4) myotomy, and (5) mucosal closure. An educational pathway composed of observation, simulation, intraoperative education, and proctorship can allow endoscopists to safely learn POEM for independent practice.
