Abstract
Background
Effective professional communication is essential to ensure patient safety in the operating room (OR). The present study was conducted to adopt the Professional Communication Questionnaire for the Operating Room (PCQOR) into Turkish.
Methods
This methodological study involved 226 healthcare professionals (HCPs) in the OR. Data were collected using the individual information form and the PCQOR. The data were analyzed for linguistic, content, and construct validity and Cronbach's alpha test.
Results
The total variance of the scale with 34 items and three sub-dimensions was determined as 57.896%. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the scale was 0.936. The Cronbach's alpha values of the sub-dimensions were 0.956 for mutual respect and trust, 0.874 for team conflict and 0.866 for ethical competence. Item-total item correlations ranged from 0.187 to 0.829 to p < 0.01.
Conclusions
The PCQOR is a valid and reliable measure for the Turkish HCPs working in the OR.
