Abstract
This article critically studies the Buddhist movement led by Trailokya Baudha Mahasangha Sahayaka Gana (TBMSG). First, the article claims that TBMSG in its very nature, practices and ideology is deviating from Ambedkar’s idea of Buddhism and getting reduced to urban middle-class ideology and concerns. Second, it reproduces patriarchy, and Brahmanical norms, in its institutions and teaching. Third, this movement religionizes Buddhism, which is quite opposite to Ambedkar’s vision of rationalizing and humanizing religion. This process of religionizing Buddhism is detrimental to creating a radical social transformation in Indian society based on egalitarian principles of liberty, equality, fraternity and justice.
