Abstract
This article outlines a dynamic classroom simulation in which participants engage in a group discussion that has elements of functional conflict embedded into the scenario and dysfunctional conflict latent in some of the roles. The scenario discussion incorporates improvisation. The debrief focuses on identifying different types of conflict (task, process, relationship), reactions, and actions taken. This experiential exercise was created to address college students’ expressed desires to better identify and understand functional conflict and to become more resilient when dealing with tense workplace situations. It is appropriate for undergraduate and graduate students or for use in workplace training modules on conflict management skills.
