Abstract
This experiential exercise enhances students’ understanding of the circular economy, sustainable packaging practices, and greenwashing. By critically examining common packaging materials and assessing their environmental trade-offs, students develop a deeper appreciation for the complexities of sustainable decision-making within organizations. The exercise addresses the pressing issue of packaging waste and the deceptive practice of greenwashing. Through collaborative analysis, students identify opportunities to reduce waste, promote circularity, and avoid misleading sustainability claims. The article outlines the exercise’s objectives, logistics, and discussion points, highlighting its potential to foster critical thinking, collaboration, and a more sustainable mindset among future business professionals. This in-person exercise is suitable for undergraduate and graduate students in a number of courses such as entrepreneurship, management, marketing, strategy, supply chain, ethics, and environmental business.
