Abstract
This case explores communication disconnects resulting in a fragmented orientation, a disengaged intern, and a disgruntled Food and Beverage (F & B) manager. Good communication is essential in all business operations. Disengaged and uninformed employees can adversely impact business operations and profitability. Implementing effective communication tools and strategies in departments is vital to optimize performance and stay competitive. An organization that has effective policies and procedures but does not disseminate the information may have undesirable outcomes. Misunderstandings and dissatisfied employees may result if there is misalignment between employee actions and formal policies and procedures.
