Abstract
This clinical care update describes a variety of viruses that can lead to respiratory illness. The viruses discussed include Influenza, Parainfluenza, Respiratory Syncytical Virus, Human Metapneumovirus, Rhinovirus, Adenovirus, and Enterovirus. These viruses are responsible for many unscheduled office visits and hospitalizations in both immunocompetent and immunocompromised individuals; people with asthma are often affected. Details presented in the article include viral characteristics, signs and symptoms, complications, diagnosis, treatment, and educational recommendations for asthma educators.
