Abstract
In this paper a new type of micro electrical discharge machining (MEDM) machine tool is designed and developed that is based on the principles of complete functions, good adaptability, and high accuracy. The MEDM machine tool consists of a motion system, a wire electrical discharge grinding system, a dielectric fluid supply system, a micro-energy pulse generator, a visual observation and measurement system, and a control system. Experimental results are presented that demonstrate that the proposed MEDM machine tool can be used to manufacture micro electrodes, micro holes, and complex two-dimensional micro workpieces and can also be used to mill complex three-dimensional shapes.
