Le malformazioni del canale acustico esterno (CAE) rivelabili radiologicamente sono quelle che intercorrono nel I trimestre di gestazione.
La diagnosi precoce di esse è importante perché, se bilaterali, provocano ritardato sviluppo intellettivo e del linguaggio. Gli Autori, dopo avere accennato alla embriologia ed alla anatomia del CAE, espongono i 4 gruppi della Classificazione di Frey e presentano iconografia degli aspetti TC più frequenti.
