There is significant literature showing improved outcomes in patients who are cared for in a specialized neurocritical care unit. The authors propose a model where the key aspects of specialized neurocrticial care can be provided within the framework of an existing ICU in an efficient and effective manner as an alternative to a separate neurocritical care unit. The key aspects of programmatic success are described.
