Two New Antidepressant Steroidal Aglycones from Stephanotis mucronata

Abstract

Two new C₂₁ steroidal aglycones, 12-O-(N-methyl) anthraniloyl-deacylmetaplexigenin (1) and 12-O-tigloyl-20-O-tigloylsarcostin (2), were isolated from the hydrolyzed extract of the EtOAc soluble extract of the roots of Stephanotis mucronata. Their structures were determined on the basis of chemical evidence and extensive spectroscopic methods. The potential antidepressant activities of compounds 1 and 2 were evaluated in mice forced swimming test.
