Phytochemical Constituents from the Root of Luvunga Scandens and Biological Activity Evaluation

Abstract

Isobutylglucosinolate (1) was isolated from the root of Luvunga scandens (Roxb.) for the first time, which demonstrated an antioxidant activity with an IC₅₀ value of 30.1±0.2 μg/mL Additionally, two biological active phytosterols, named β-sitosterol (2) and stigmasterol (3) were also isolated from Luvunga scandens (Roxb.), showing the low cytotoxicity against human colon adenocarcinoma cell line (HT29) with IC₅₀ values of 124±1 μg/mL and 141±3 μg/mL, respectively. The chemical structure of all isolated compounds (1–4) was identified by spectroscopic analyses.
