Abstract
Despite global efforts to improve early childhood outcomes, significant disparities persist, particularly in underserved communities. This article proposes a framework for embedding equity principles into implementation science within the context of early years research and practice. By integrating equity considerations with established implementation science models, a roadmap for researchers and practitioners to systematically address disparities in early childhood development programs is offered. The Equity-Centered Implementation Framework for Early Years (ECIF-EY) presented in this article emphasizes five key domains: Contextual Equity Analysis, Stakeholder Engagement and Power Sharing, Cultural Adaptation and Relevance, Equity-Focused Implementation Strategies, and Equity-Oriented Evaluation. Theoretical underpinnings, practical applications, and potential challenges in applying this framework are discussed. By normalizing equity-centered implementation practices, the ECIF-EY has the potential to transform how early years interventions are approached and contribute to achieving sustainable development goals related to early childhood.
