Abstract
This paper examines the literature regarding deep and surface approaches to learning. Quality of understanding and recall of information have been found to be enhanced by deep approaches to learning. In addition to improving academic performances, deep approaches to studying provide a framework of understandings that will assist students in the unfamiliar situations they will encounter as professionals after graduation. Methods of facilitating deep approaches to learning are identified and discussed.
