Abstract
Clinical governance has elicited much debate among healthcare professionals. One of the most pressing issues concerns how clinical governance can be effectively implemented (Pratt et al, 2002). This paper describes how one Trust ‘made it happen’ by using a quality improvement programme.
The recently published epic guidelines (Pratt et al, 2001) created an opportunity to examine the practice of short-term urinary catheter management. The best available evidence, as stated in the guidelines, was used to inform the initiative throughout, resulting in changes being made that improved practice, knowledge and materials management systems.
