A sudden and extensive outbreak of vomiting/diarrhoea can present a significant challenge to teachers/carers who are acting in ‘loco parentis’ for children away from home on a school expedition or holiday. This article discusses an outbreak that occurred on the Isle of Wight and makes recommendations for UK resort public health teams and for residential facilities that cater for large parties of schoolchildren.
