Conventional approaches to tendering and building NHS buildings have led in the past to poor practice, budget over-runs and disappointing results. The ProCure21 process aims to streamline the process, involving clinicians earlier to ensure that designs and building are fit for purpose and built on time and to budget. This article describes building a new unit in Sheffield using ProCure21, and details some of the novel approaches to building and design that resulted from this collaboration.
