This article explores Sickle Cell Disease and Sickle Cell Trait. These are hereditary conditions that affect thousands of people in the UK and abroad. The disease tends to occur in people of Afro-Caribbean or Mediterranean descent. The specific Pre-, Peri- and postoperative care of affected patients is examined.
