This fictional case study provides a summary of events that took place at Central University after the campus newspaper published a controversial political cartoon mocking media coverage of the killing of an unarmed Black man. The cartoon and lack of administrative response led to the formation of a student activist group. The case highlights the conflict some campus administrators perceive in protecting student expression, which may harm other students’ feelings of safety and belonging.
