Abstract
The Winterdale School District sits within a majority White and progressive city, which sits within a majority White and conservative state. Students in the district voiced their concerns about the racially biased treatment they experienced or witnessed. This revelation prompted the formation of the Winterdale Equity Community (WEC) to address the district’s leadership. A very public and embarrassing exposé of the district’s biased practices resulted in a change in leadership. The case prompts students of educational leadership to consider how a new leader will create a systemically more racially conscious and equitable district for students and families despite being located in a state that has adopted anti-critical race theory (CRT) legislation.
