Abstract
In this case narrative, Michelle, a young teenage male adolescent considering the transition from male to female, becomes the target of viscous teasing and physical abuse, especially when she does not conform to the school’s gender expectations. As a result, it presents school leaders with a contemporary issue facing lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender/queer/intersex/ally youth while providing insight regarding the frequency of homophobic comments from students and staff. Unlike the majority of JCEL cases, which portray fictitious administrators facing hypothetical dilemmas, this case is based on a real incident and puts you in the middle of the story—as you take on the role of the assistant principal in the case.
