Abstract
Libraries within higher education institutions are recognized not only as repositories of knowledge but also as catalysts for peace and harmony among university stakeholders. This paper examines the role of academic libraries in managing peace in tertiary education institutions (TEIs) through theoretical and empirical literature. Applying systems theory, it underscores libraries’ interconnectedness with other TEI subsystems and their potential to foster a peaceful academic environment. Libraries contribute to peace management by providing safe spaces, curating peace-related resources, and hosting community dialogs. However, there is a notable gap in empirical research on this topic, emphasizing the need for more evidence-based studies. The paper concludes with strategic recommendations for libraries to enhance their peace-building contributions, including developing comprehensive peace-building plans, fostering inclusivity, and embracing innovation.
