Abstract
This article describes and reports the effectiveness of the “Data-Based Classroom.” This model, developed by Teaching Research, has been used to serve moderately to profoundly handicapped children ages 1 to 18 years, in four classrooms organized by chronological age of students. A multiple baseline study of the early childhood classrooms showed that the students at Teaching Research acquired a mean of 6.44 skills per month, while the students at replication sites acquired a mean of 9.01 skills per month, which are both significantly greater gains than were made by students without instruction. A second comparison study showed that school-aged severely handicapped students using the model made significantly greater skill gains than similar students in other classrooms. These gains also seem to be educationally significant.
