Abstract
The purpose of this pilot study was to determine the effect of four different types of feedback conditions on the assessment of grip strength during maximum voluntary isometric contraction in 20 normal female subjects. The four feedback conditions studied were: (a) no extrinsic feedback, (b) visual extrinsic feedback, (c) auditory extrinsic feedback, and (d) combined auditory and visual extrinsic feedback. Each subject was required to exert maximum hand grip of the right hand by squeezing the handle of a specially constructed testing device. This task was performed three times in each of the four experimental conditions. Results indicated that the application of either of the four feedback conditions did not produce any significant difference on the performance measured during strength testing. Recommendations for further research are discussed.
