Abstract
A persistent sciatic artery is a rare vascular anomaly Since the first description of Green in 1832, only 54 cases have been reported in literature so far. The authors report a case of acute ischemia of the left lower limb in a twenty-three-year-old man with an ipsilateral sciatic artery aneurysm. After emergency admittance, preoperative diagnosis was made by clinical examination, ultrasonography, angiography, and computed tomographic scan. During operation, the aneurysm was proximally and distally ligated, but not removed, to avoid injury of the sciatic nerve. Arterial reconstruction was performed by implantation of an iliopopliteal bypass using autologous vein.
