Nonoperative Removal of an Intracardiac Foreign Body in a Child: Case Report

Abstract

The authors report a case of a nine-year-old girl whose fractured Hickman catheter embolized to the heart. Because the proximal end of the catheter fragment resided underneath the papillary muscles of the tricuspid valve, biopsy forceps were used to maneuver the fragment from the right ventricle into the inferior vena cava. This fragment was then retrieved with a basket snare without complication.
