Two cases of ureteral obstruction due to the retroperitoneal fibrosis associated with abdominal aortic aneurysm are described.
The clinical findings, etiology, diagnosis, and management are discussed. Preoperative diagnosis of abdominal aortic aneurysm with periaortic fibrosis and ureteral obstruction may be possible with the aid of intravenous urography, ultrasonography, and computed tomography.
Aortic replacement with synchronous ureterolysis is the treatment of choice; cortico steroids represent an alternative therapy where aortic replacement is too hazardous.
