A seventy-year-old patient developed chylous ascites as a complication after surgery for abdominal aortic aneurysm. After failure of conservative treatment a peritoneovenous shunt (Denver) was placed, which functioned immediately. The patient died four weeks later of massive coronary ischemia. The shunt had been functioning until the patient's death. No chylous fistula was found by au topsy.
