Two cases of aneurysm of membranous septum (AMS) in adults are pre sented, both of which support the hypothesis that it may be the mechanism of spontaneous closure of ventricular septal defects (VSDs). In one case, a trivial residual VSD persisted. In the second case, serial catheterization studies were available; the VSD was large in childhood, gradually became smaller, and com pletely closed with the formation of AMS after the age of 14.
