Abstract
The treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) with concomitant biliary tract disease remains controversial. Treatment of both conditions in a single stage has been reported by use of a transabdominal approach, closing the retroperitoneum and then removing the gallbladder. The authors report a case of combined AAA repair and cholecystectomy using retroperitoneal exposure to operate on the aorta and then laparoscopic removal of the diseased gallbladder. This approach was associated with rapid recovery and decreased concern with infection inherent with simultaneous transperitoneal exposure of both lesions.
