This short essay serves as an introduction to the Special Issue, while also establishing an argument for the importance of critical autoethnographic reflections on how “western/cowboy and Indian” movies shape the emotional, political, ethical, gendered and cultural lives of viewers; establishing a social consciousness of race, sex, gender, class and the hierarchical notions of human rights.
