Thermoplastic urethanes behave as crosslinked rubbers when cold, but when heated to moulding temperatures, behave as linear non- crosslinked polymers which flow readily for moulding. The material is inert to most common solvents, has good abrasion resistance, and high elasticity. Being thermoplastic, scrap and sprues may be recycled, while in coatings, the material is finding a natural application in the construction of simu lated leather products.
