Audiometric testing of young or difficult-to-test children is often hampered by their unwillingness to wear earphones, even for brief periods of time. A variety of alternative hearing testing methodologies exist, but they do not provide results equivalent to those of behavioral procedures. A procedure is described, utilizing operant conditioning principles, for shaping earphone wearing in block-dropping "play audiometry," utilizing vibrotactile stimulation as the first step.
