Abstract
This article presents a rationale for initiating non-verbal language training with instruction of Yes and No responses. Selection of an initial Yes/No response mode is based upon compatibility with a future format of communication training and the physical characteristics of the student. The instructional sequence for Yes/No training is detailed, beginning with the training of a Yes response through presentation of desirable items; and followed by training of a No response in an alternating pattern with the Yes response. A case study is presented to illustrate the use and efficacy of these procedures.
