Abstract
Educators and speech-language pathologists have a new and unwanted area for which they need to be prepared. Unfortunately, helping students deal with acts of terrorism now needs to be addressed in the schools. This article discusses the special needs of students with cognitive or language-processing disabilities in dealing with tragedy. Specific suggestions for helping students cope are given for the following areas: feeling safe, handling emotion, and developing understanding.
