Introduction to the Symposium: The Use of Consumption Taxation in Response to the Great Recession

Abstract

During the Great Recession of 2008–09 most economies experienced a downturn in economic activity and tax revenues fell as a result. in some cases revenue fell dramatically. Many governments sought alternative sources of revenue. the purpose of the Symposium is to investigate the characteristics and use of consumption taxes.
