Abstract
The principles of glare are summarized briefly; the implications of recent research are discussed and a new glare assessment method is described. A glare index is obtained as the sum of only three terms which depend on the luminance, flux fractions and light distribution class of the lighting fittings, and on the dimensions of the room and the reflectances of its surfaces. These terms are easily obtained from graphs given in the paper.
