This paper discusses the illuminating engineering principles applicable to the lighting of churches. The requirements of various denominations are discussed in conjunction with different styles and periods of architecture. Illumination methods and associated fittings are classified and their suitability and limitations for a number of situations are indicated. Notes are included on historical aspects, light sources, installation, and new projects.
