Abstract
The lighting of large stores has not always in the past received the detailed attention, which is so necessary for its particular requirements. These requirements vary with almost each and every store and are bound up with the economics of store operation together with the atmosphere that has grown up with the development of each particular store.
The cost of electricity plays an important role in deciding whether or not a store can afford to have the best lighting, whilst the interior structural layout affects the actual design. Intensity of the lighting must be viewed in regard to the effect on coloured merchandise, and the choice of hard or soft illumination will depend on the class of store.
