Abstract
Bariatric surgery is known to have profound effects on type 2 diabetes mellitus, yet only a fraction of eligible patients will be considered for this type of intervention. In the UK, eligibility criteria for surgery are becoming increasingly strict and diabetes has emerged as the most important comorbid indication for surgery in the obese patient. This review examines current evidence for bariatric surgery in obese diabetic patients with a view to raising the profile of this life changing intervention.
