Abstract
This Note reflects on the challenges of being a qualitative researcher, emphasising the ongoing struggle for recognition and credibility within certain quantitatively oriented circles. Drawing on personal experience as a human geographer and on the history of qualitative research within geography, it offers practical guidance for qualitative researchers across disciplines on how to assert themselves and succeed despite methodological tensions. Furthermore, the piece explores how publishers, funders, and academic institutions can support qualitative research and enhance its visibility in scholarly discourse. Ultimately, the aim is to encourage further discussion on addressing scepticism towards qualitative work and to inspire others to share their insights and experiences on this important topic.
