This study investigates the use of Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) to butt weld AISI 347 pipes. Microstructural analysis revealed the presence of columnar, equiaxed dendrites, and niobium carbide (NbC). Niobium carbide could effectively prevent intergranular defects by inhibiting chromium and carbon precipitation. X-ray diffraction (XRD) confirmed the presence of austenite and δ-ferrite phases, with δ-ferrite content between 3–8% to prevent hot cracking. Welded samples exhibited superior mechanical strength compared to the base metal (BM), attributed to microstructural and mechanical properties of GMAW-welded AISI 347 pipes, offering valuable guidance for industries involved in nuclear and aerospace application.
